Velocity in Africa FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Velocity in Africa FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q : I would like to own a Velocity aircraft, how do I choose the right one ?
A : Go to the Velocity Factory web site (www.velocityaircraft.com). Look at all the models for price / performance
comparison and read the rest of these FAQ's !

Q : XL or Standard model ?
A : If you want to move lot's of PAX's around in great comfort and you are a relatively large fellow, you would
need to go for the XL. However this will be more costly to run and maintain. If you want to use it as more
of a sports plane for two people and luggage, the standard model will do !

Q : What model of Velocity can I afford ?
A : Remember that the prices on the factory home page only include the basic kit with no instruments, prop and
engine ! When bringing the kit plus extra's into the country you need to consider the shipping cost of a
20ft container, as well as VAT (Value Added Tax). Should you wish to register the plane on your
Company name, seek advise from a Financial Advisor - remember if your business goes down the drain
they will take away your pride and joy !

Q : How long does it take to complete the kit !
A : If you are a first time builder and you do not have access to the Build Assist Program - it will probably take you
3 times that of the factory quoted time. Should you be a keen mechanical minded builder, with lots of
composite experience and you can work a 8hour day on your project, you could complete the kit in one to two
times the factory quoted time.

Q : I don't want to wait so long to fly my Velocity - I have no time to build !
A : You can ask the factory to build the kit for you subject to their quotation or you can buy one ready made from adds
posted in the Velocity Views News.

Q : How does the Velocity fit in the South African environment ?
A : First of all it's a pusher and therefore the prop is prone to get damaged when landing on dirt runways. Secondly the
Velocity has no flaps and therefore needs relatively long runways (1000m plus) for takeoff and landing. The
speed brake is thus a necessity. Once the aircraft is airborne it's a wonderful long distance cruiser with
comfortable seating and it can carry a lot of fuel.

Q : Fixed gear or RG ?
A : My opinion RG - because she looks sleeker. The RG system is also well constructed with an audible warning device
that warns you when you reduce power to idle when coming in to land with the gear up. The building time will
however take longer than the fixed gear though ! There is also about a 10 knot speed advantage on the RG !

Q : Fixed pitch or constant speed prop ?
A : Due to the problem of taking off on short runways at high altitudes (e.g Highveld), with lots of PAX's and fuel,
a constant speed will be better. If you can afford it go for it, as this costs about $9000 (USD) for this !
With the Velocity being so clean it is easy to redline your engine RPM's when cruising.

Q : How do I get my plane airworthy ?
A : You need to become a member of the EAA of S.A - Currently there is one test Pilot who would be able to test fly your
plane in the Johannesburg area ! (I can give you his contact details)

Q : How do I get converted to fly my Velocity ?
A : Currently there is one Instructor rated to convert you in the Johannesburg area ! (I can give you his contact details)

Q : How do I service my Velocity ?
A : You can do the maintanance yourself under the LS1 category.
